There is many chips that will work but I have only used ModBo 4.0 and 5.0. You can install a ModBo 5.0 using the diagrams for a 4.0 as they are the same essentially. I have a PS2 slim model SCPH-70004 If I insert either a CD or DVD game the disc never spins. The laser moves forward and you can see it turn on for a second but the disc never spins. I don't get a disc read error when a disc is inserted only the opening screen on the TV. It is as though the disc is never detected by the game. I have cleaned the lense and lubed the guides and tried adjusting the laser nothing changes. Story: I installed a modbo 4.0 modification chip on my ps2. First i soldered laser fix diode then i try solder cables to the chip but i didnt complete and remove chip and laser diode from ps2 but laser diodes area got some solder i cleaned solders but its same disk dont spins. Your lens is repeatedly touching the disc. In the future, this could be a big issue, and it is a sign that your lens is breaking down. On the slimline models, specifically SCPH-70000 models or greater, the lasers are disposable just about. They weaken easily, and they stop working fast. You can get a new laser for about 20 dollars from some websites. Check some of your discs. If you notice any circular scratches, you'll know that your lens is touching the disc. Does it still read PSX, PS2 games (including DVD-9 dual layer games like Guitar Hero) well? Modbo Colorado SpringsDoes it read fast? Can you still watch movies on your PS2? If not, your lens is breaking and you'll need to replace it. Sep 12, 2009|. It seems there has been a malfunction within your CD Drive, this is what is causing the CD drive to not spin or read the disc. These problems can be only generally resolved by either getting the console repaired/replaced unfortunately. The PS2 will still turn on and run because the CD Drive does not dictate whether the console works or not, but because the CD Drive is broken, you will not be able to play games or watch DVD Films unless you have the CD Drive Repaired. Hope this Helps?! Oct 27, 2008|. Your DVD potentiometer pot on the back of the PS2 laser lens needs to be readjusted. Some people will try to tell you it's out of alignment but if that was the case it would not read CD's. Some people will try to tell you the laser lens is bad. If that was the case it would not read CD's. On the back of the laser lens are two potentiometer pots. Two lil screws that are turnable. One controls the power of the DVD laser one controls the power of the CD laser. That link will give you pretty lil pictures of what i'm talking about:) In a nut shell the story goes like this folks. If your PS2 won't read certain game DVD's that are of a certain color or if it all of a sudden mysteriously fails to read games it once read but will play cd's just fine, the voltage of the laser for DVD's is not set correctly. (this does needs manual tweeking from time to time if you take your ps2 and move it around alot or if you take it over to friends houses etc etc. Basicly alot of movment in general can take this out of alignment. Even keeping the PS2 on it's side could theoreticly (just my opinion) based on gravitational pull, unbalance the potentiometer.
